Sightseeing Tours: South Wales
With over 600 castles that were built to defend against Celts, Romans, Saxons and Vikings, Wales is just an hour or so drive from the Bath area and has some great attractions for a day tour including Chepstow Castle (that is imposingly built on the banks of River Wye), the nearby ruins of the Cistercian monastery at Tintern Abbey following its dissolution in 1536, as well as further picturesque castles and landscapes and, of course, the Welsh capital, Cardiff.
The forest and valleys of south Wales lead northward and westwards to the Brecon Beacons, a mountain range and national park area that's ideally suited to those moving on to the area for outdoor adventures whilst those looking to explore the strong industrial heritage of the area should visit the World Heritage Site at Blaenavon to experience the Big Pit coal museum (where you'll have the opportunity to descend into the old colliery), iron works, heritage railway and town.
